JOHNSON CITY (WBNG) – Young professionals around the Southern Tier were “hyped” for the very first HYPE awards at Traditions at the Glen.

Out of 45 HYPE finalists, 15 young professionals from around the Southern Tier were honored Tuesday for their successful work, talent, and dedication in their industry, as well as making a positive change in the community.

Multiple areas of professionalism were recognized. Among them, young professionals in the engineering fields to the healthcare fields and the arts.

The Greater Binghamton Chamber of commerce says that by recognizing these young professionals who chose to stay in the area the awards might encourage them even more.

The winners were chosen by a chamber committee and a community poll of over 3,000 votes.

Amy Shaw, Senior Vice President of the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce said that the HYPE awards are recognizing those that “demonstrated outstanding leadership and are the best of the best in their industries and within our community.”

Shaw said, “we want them to be integrated into our community, we want them to feel at home. We want to keep them, we want them to grow in their career and get those professional development opportunities to them.”

Officials said that it’s important to engage the young professionals and recognize the achievements that they’ve made, and to recognize too that others appreciate their work.
