As one store closes, another plans to open in the shopping center off Reisterstown Road in Owings Mills.

OWINGS MILLS, MD — A new store is reportedly coming to the shopping center on Reisterstown Road where the Toys R Us and Babies R Us used to be. According to Fox 45, Hobby Lobby plans to set up shop in the vacant space.
Toys R Us closed all of its stores nationwide in June 2018. The New Jersey-based company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2017 and later announced it would close or sell all of its 735 U.S. stores.
It went out of business amid slumping sales and mounting debt in the United States, while its stores abroad are still open. It also plans to open two experience-based stores before the holidays, in Texas and New Jersey.
Conor Flynn, CEO of Kimco Realty Corporation, said at a consumer conference last year that many of the larger big-box storefronts would be taken up by Hobby Lobby, in a report published in The Wall Street Journal. Burlington Stores Inc. and TJX Co., which owns stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls and HomeGoods, were also among the retailers expected to fill those empty stores.
Off-price retailers, fitness centers and specialty grocers are likely to go after the Toys R Us stores that are about 35,000 square feet each, according to Flynn, whose company has interest in about 475 shopping centers. The smaller stores, that are 20,000-25,000 square feet, are more suited for retailers like TJ Maxx and Marshalls, Flynn said, per the Journal.
In Bel Air, Homesense is opening by the end of the year at a vacant Toys R Us; and in Columbia, Ashley Home Furniture will take over a vacant Toys R Us store.
Hobby Lobby plans to open in the Owings Mills shopping center in 2020, Fox 45 reported. It is located at 10200 Reisterstown Road.
Just next door at the same shopping plaza, the news station reported that Bed, Bath & Beyond will shutter.
Although there is reportedly a push to close 40 Bed, Bath & Beyond stores across the country this year, Fox 45 said the Owings Mills store personnel attributed its closure to the lease ending at the shopping center.
